Mission & Overview
The interdisciplinary Summer School in Higher Education Research and Science Studies (HERSS) is jointly organised by a consortium of higher education research and science studies institutions in Germany and has been taking place since 2015.
The school aims to bring together both young scientist (students and PhD students) and experts in this field in order to present and discuss current themes, projects and results of their research. The teaching of empirical methods and procedures is also an essential part of the summer school's programme. In this way the summer school promotes the exchange and networking within higher education research and science studies on both the national and international level.
The focus topic of the summer school changes annually since a different member of the consortium of organisers hosts the event each year and consequently, it takes place at different locations in Germany. The summer school's office is located at the German Centre for Higher Education Research and Science Studies (DZHW) in Hanover.
Being internationally oriented, the summer school is held in English. It is generously funded by the German Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).
